Update - After a week of ongoing disruptions within Kazakhstan as a result of local protests that caused a nationwide internet shutdown, we are pleased to provide an update on the status of our facility.

While Kazakhstan remains on high alert with local unrest, the south, Almaty region that has seen the highest activity is over 1000 miles from the Wattum mining farm, allowing us to slowly begin the process of resuming operations as the situation winds down.

The Internet connection has been partially restored across the country, and we expect a recovery of mining this week.

All equipment at our facility is secure. We have strengthened security measures as of day-one of the unrest.

We thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding as we anticipate regular mining operations within the next week. Members of our team will be in touch with further updates as new information becomes available.

Monitoring - Internet services have been severely disrupted since Wednesday, global Internet monitor NetBlocks said, with connectivity at about 5 percent of normal levels as of Friday morning.

Earlier Friday, Tokayev said in a statement that security forces have “mostly” regained control of the country. “The constitutional order has been basically restored in all regions,” he said.

According to Cloudflare (https://radar.cloudflare.com/kz) we see the internet has some restoration with random spikes. We are hoping that the situation will stabilize within 1-2 weeks and the facility will be turned back on.

Identified - As a result of rising fuel prices, the local citizens of Kazakhstan have initiated a mass protest that is causing alternate disruptions across the country.

As you may know, such disruptions have included the cutting of internet access. The local network data provider, NetBlocks, has reported that Kazakhstan is “in the midst of a nation-scale internet blackout after a day of mobile internet disruptions and partial restrictions.” As the unrest escalates, current priorities remain on public safety.

Wattum is aware of the situation and is monitoring both local news channels as well as local connections close to the source in order to maintain the most up to date information as the situation develops.

All mining equipment at our Kazakhstan facility is safe, with ongoing security measures both remote and on-site that have not been affected by the unrest. The facility is currently experiencing downtime as a result of the internet blackout. These delays are not power-related and are a direct result of the nationwide shutdown. We currently estimate that delays will persist for another week.

It is our priority and responsibility to provide you with accurate and timely information, and we will be doing our best to do so as we continue to monitor the ongoing situation.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions. We sincerely thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work to get through this together, and members of our team will be in touch as new information becomes available.
